What is UVGI?

UV-C light has become a powerful and natural way to disinfect and remove odors. However, to fully understand the potential of UV-C, it is necessary to understand the three different wavelengths that fall under this category of ultraviolet light. This article will explore the capabilities of UVGI, as shown in the Airbotx 290X, and uncover its unique features and capabilities.

What is UVGI?

There are three types of UV light: UV-A, UV-B, and UV-C. What distinguishes these three types of light is where they fall on the electromagnetic spectrum. The spectrum’s shortest and most powerful wavelength is UV-C (100-280nm). UV-C can be subdivided into three wavelengths: germicidal UV (250-280nm), far-UVC (2-00-230nm), and vacuum UV (100-200nm).

UVGI Capabilities

Germicidal UV is powerful enough to disinfect and destroy pathogens. Yet, since it is higher on the electromagnetic spectrum, it does not produce strong enough waves to create ozone, making it safe for use in occupied areas. UV-C energy can alter various microorganisms’ genetic makeup, destroying their ability to reproduce.

The Airbotx 290X

The Airbotx 290X is designed for germicidal use. For projects with strong odors, we recommend the Airbotx 390X. The Airbotx 290X uses UVGI to effectively kill or inactivate viruses, bacteria, fungal organisms, and other airborne pathogens in occupied areas. The Airbotx 290X has a built-in fan and can treat up to 700 CFM.

The Airbotx 290X draws in air from the surrounding environment. First, the air is ‘scrubbed’ through MERV 8 and HEPA filters, which capture particulates such as mold spores, dust, dander, and other particles. The scrubbed air then passes through the UV-C chamber and is exposed to the four ultraviolet germicidal irradiation lamps (UVGI) before being pushed back into the environment.

Since UVGI doesn’t create ozone, the Airbotx 290X is safe to use in all occupied spaces.

Final Thoughts

UVGI harnesses the power of UV-C light to fight against microorganisms without creating ozone, making it a dynamic tool for various projects. By incorporating a UVGI device like the Airbotx 290X, you can effectively disinfect without worrying about the safety of surrounding organisms. Additionally, you will never be exposed to UV-C light because the UV-C chamber is completely closed off, and each Airbotx device has a safety feature that automatically turns off the lamps when the chamber is opened.
